The plastic processing(also rubber processing) mehtods that plastic or rubber is formed in the closed cavity with heated and pressurized molding process. Generally, powder, granular, mission granular, flake, or even the blank material being made first to be similar with the shape of the products, are put into the heating mold cavity, and then closed the mold and pressure, to molding and solidifying or vulcanizating, finally get products after a product release (see figure).This way is particularly applicable to the forming of various thermosetting plastics (see thermosetting resins). Disadvantage: long production cycle, low efficiency, bad dimensional accuracy.
Major equipments have mold and press. The function of the press is pressing on the plastic through the mold. In rubber processing, the press referred to as flat-panel vulcanizer. The main parameters of the press including nominal tonnage, plate size, work schedule and plunger diameter, which decide the size, height or thickness of molded products, as well as the maximum pressure.According to their structural characteristics,mold can be divided into the overflow-style, non-overflow-style and semi-overflow-style, the half-overflow-style is used widely.
